Washing Machine Error Codes Explained

Error Code Guide

Machine Stopped?
Decoding E18, E2, OE

Don’t panic. These codes usually mean a simple drainage or water issue. Learn how to fix them yourself before calling a technician in Mysuru & Bangalore.

Door Stuck with Water?

Do Not Force It Open! If you see an E18 or OE error and water inside the drum, forcing the door handle will break the lock. Follow the “Manual Drain” steps below first.

What is My Machine Telling Me?

Modern washing machines have sensors that detect when something takes too long. If the water doesn’t drain in 10 minutes, the machine stops to protect the pump and shows an error like E18 (Bosch/Siemens) or OE (LG/Samsung).

In 90% of Indian homes, this is caused by a coin, button, or lint clogging the filter.

How to Fix Drainage Errors (E18/OE)

The Fix: You need to clean the Drain Filter located at the bottom right of your machine.

Step 1: Drain the Water

  • Open the small flap at the bottom right.
  • You will see a small black hose. Pull it out.
  • Place a shallow tray under it and remove the plug to drain the water manually.

Step 2: Clean the Filter

  • Once drained, unscrew the large round cap (turn left).
  • Pull it out. You will likely find coins, pins, or lint.
  • Clean the cavity, verify the propeller spins freely, and screw it back tightly.

When to Call a Pro

If you have cleaned the filter and the error persists, the issue might be:

  • Faulty Drain Pump: The motor has burnt out and needs replacement.
  • Wiring Issue: Rats may have chewed the wires powering the pump.
  • PCB Error: The board is not sending the signal to drain.

Prevent Future Errors

Check Pockets

Coins are the #1 enemy of drain pumps. Always empty pockets before washing.

Clean Monthly

Open and clean the drain filter once a month to prevent sludge buildup.

Check Hose

Ensure the grey drain hose at the back is not kinked or bent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to restart the machine after an error?

Only after you have cleared the blockage. Restarting repeatedly without fixing the clog can burn out the pump.

Why does my machine show E2?

For Top Load machines, E2 often means the lid is not closed properly (Lid Switch error) or the machine is unbalance.

Can I replace the pump myself?

It involves electrical connections and water seals. It is recommended to have a technician do it to avoid leaks.
