“Change the PCB”
Is it Really Needed?
Technicians often blame the “Board” for every issue. Learn why they say it, when it’s true, and when it might be a simple wiring fix.
The Most Expensive Diagnosis
Hearing “PCB Replacement” is scary. It usually comes with a bill of ₹4,000 to ₹8,000. In cities like Mysuru and Bangalore, voltage fluctuations and pests often damage these sensitive boards.
However, an honest technician will rule out loose wires, blown fuses, and faulty sensors before condemning the PCB. Here is how you can tell the difference.
The Brain vs. The Body
Think of the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) as the brain of your appliance. It sends commands.
- If the brain is dead, nothing works (No lights/sound).
- If the brain works but the hand doesn’t move, it might be a nerve (wiring) or muscle (motor) issue, not the brain itself.
Repair or Replace? (Decision Matrix)
Technicians follow this logic. You should too.
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Recommended Action |
|---|---|---|
| Dead Display / No Power | Power Supply Failure on PCB | Board Repair (Usually possible) |
| Error Code (e.g. E1, PE) | Sensor or Wiring Fault | Check Wiring (PCB is likely fine) |
| Burnt Smell / Visible Black Marks | Short Circuit | Replace PCB (Repair is unsafe) |
| Erratic Behavior (Random Beeps) | Moisture / Cockroaches | Clean & Dry (50% chance of fix) |
Is it a “False Alarm”?
Check these 3 things before agreeing to a PCB change.
1. Rat Bite
Rats love chewing wires. If a wire connecting the PCB to the motor is cut, the PCB isn’t broken—the connection is. Fix the wire!
2. Loose Connector
Vibrations (especially in washing machines) loosen the white plugs on the board. A simple “unplug and replug” often fixes it.
3. Moisture
Did you wash the machine with water? Dampness confuses the touch panel. Dry it with a hair dryer (low heat) for 5 mins.
Important Warning
Never Repair a Burnt PCB in Critical Areas. If the burn mark is near the main processor (black chip), replacement is the only safe option. Repairing high-voltage tracks can lead to fire hazards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a “Repaired” PCB reliable?
Yes, if it’s a minor component change (capacitor/relay). It can last 2-3 years. Complex processor repairs are less reliable.
Why are original PCBs so expensive?
Original boards are imported and brand-specific. Compatible (universal) boards are cheaper but may lose some features (like Inverter tech).
Does Aspire do board repairs?
Yes. We always attempt Chip-Level Repair first to save you money. We only recommend replacement if repair is unsafe.
Don’t Guess. Get a Diagnosis.
We test the board, check the wiring, and give you an honest answer.
